Does K. A Parker & Associates bring about change by disassembling corporate cultures and replacing them with something all new?

What makes K. A Parker & Associates different from our competitors is the way we do what we do. We believe that a client company's essence often is its culture and to replace it with something entirely different can produce undesirable results. We work at whatever level (i.e, individual, departmental, corporate, etc.) our clients request, and we implement our processes without business disruption or the orchestration of radical culture shifts. We recommend company-wide change very sparingly, and only when is it absolutely essential.

How long does it take to assess, define and implement processes, competency measurement and training?

There are no quantifiable benchmarks that dictate how long it will take top implement the processes and training we recommend. Every client has different and often unique needs. However, our project assessment process is extremely rigorous and thorough, and can help us determine timeframes for successful implementation. Before we proceed with our planning, we always discuss the estimated timeframe to success with our clients.

Finally, we are proud to offer the most comprehensive process modeling, competency assessment, and training available. It is absolutely not our practice to "milk" our clients by expanding the amount of time we spend at a client's site beyond what is absolutely necessary.

What is different about the Parker Process Method?

Most of the methods to collect requirements from customers are meant to get output information so that the Information Technology group can automate the outputs. They then go on a search to collect inputs. The programmers then make assumptions while sitting at their desks doing programming about the process used to arrive at the outputs. Sometimes they ask and sometimes they don’t. The Parker Method insures that the entire customer process is examined. Inputs and processes are documented at the very beginning and outputs are verified before they are accepted as needed. In the process of discovering and examining the process, opportunities and suggestions on improvements to the process are gathered. These often (always) become measurable cost reductions to the process under examination. The process is quick, complete and done with the buy in of the entire customer staff.

Where do we start?

The best place to start process modeling is on newly identified projects. Projects that are newly identified to the Information Technology group to be automated usually go through a feasibility study or general design phase. This is the time to do a process model instead of either. In fact, the feasibility AND general design will be an outcome of the process modeling.

How long does process modeling take?

A process modeling session takes about 2 weeks, 2 hours per day per project or group. A cost effective approach is to contract with K.A Parker & Associates for 2 projects at a time so that one session can be done in the morning and another in the afternoon.

How will this impact my business?

From the modeling session side it will impact only 10 individuals at most. The sessions are most effective for groups of 6 to 10 individuals. Less is not better. More is not better. For example, Accounts Receivable may have 30 people in that department. Only 10 of the most knowledgeable may be present for the sessions. You would not, therefore, impact the A/R process but would pick supervisory staff and then, only take them out of the loop for 2 hours a day. Overall impact, as it relates to staff interruption, is minimal.

Compare and contrast this to the approach where the manager is the only one involved in the design and feasibility studies. This does not get buy-in from the staff and many times is an inaccurate assessment. One on one with each staff member is also non-productive because of the visibility of each staff member. As a group, the model is complete, accurate, current and bought by the group. The overall impact is positive as it relates to the bottom line and also other, non-quantitative, psychological impacts like task clarity, team building, and employee empowerment.

Is the Parker Process Method proprietary?

Our process is proprietary because it is unique and was developed by Kim Parker. Kim Parker developed it during his many years of process modeling in an MIS environment. To learn more about how the process evolved, please click on Our Proprietary Process.

Is it easy to implement?

The Parker Process Method is definitely a skill that can be acquired by a select group of individuals with the right capabilities and some training. K.A Parker & Associates, Inc. will contract to provide training in this method. We prefer that the organization allow us to do several projects and have candidates identified through competency modeling and training analysis before we commit to training on the method. Our overall goal is to turn over this capability to the client organization as quickly as possible.
